About the Festival

COLOMBOSCOPE is a contemporary arts festival and creative platform for interdisciplinary dialogue that has grown steadily within the cultural landscape of Colombo since 2013.

The festival has worked with a range of intergenerational artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, social theorists and scientific researchers from Sri Lanka and internationally delivering a focused programme with each festival edition held at key historic sites in Colombo. Several of the cultural practitioners participating in COLOMBOSCOPE have gone on to show their work within regional and international exhibitions.

The festival organizers are committed to building a sustainable and context-responsive environment for cultural producers to continue generating path-breaking, collaborative and genre-defying approaches in the field.

We find ourselves in the middle. As our sociality and modes of access remain contained, border regimes and algorithmic surveillance have swiftly transformed the ebb and flow of global circulation.  With this online series #HeldApartTogether we turn to some of our artist friends and wish to sustain primary acts of reading, listening and viewing together. As Epicurus once said, “The fool, with all his other faults, has this also, he is always getting ready to live.” Let us stay alert and responsive, but also joyous.

Cultural Collaboration

EU National Institutes for Culture

EUNIC (The European Union National Institutes of Culture) has been supporting Colomboscope through its Cluster Fund since 2015. In 2019, the EUNIC Sri Lanka Cluster (Goethe-InstitutBritish Council & Alliance Française) together with Fold Media Collective were chosen by an international jury of arts and social enterprise experts as an innovative model for cross-cultural collaboration. COLOMBOSCOPE became one of five projects from over forty applicants from different countries selected for the grant.
